I posted several months ago on converting ACT files recorded on an MP3 player to something readable on a computer. It’s probably without competition the most-read and commented-on post on this site: there are many people out there who are looking for a tool to do this. And it seems that the ACT files generated by newer MP3 player devices aren’t compatible with the older convertors.
So, one of the readers, Phil “Mumbles”, discovered a tool that works for this stuff. He’s sent me the file after having cut it down from 8MB for a few apps to under 300KB for the just new sound convertor tool.
You can download it here — please post if it works or doesn’t work with your MP3 player/recorder so that other people looking for information on their device can find it.
One closing note from Phil:
and BTW,
It appears to hang if you don’t let it run its course (gives a not responding msg). the “hang” grows accordingly with the .act file size.
Cheers
Phil

[…] Update: The software listed here doesn’t appear to be working for newer hardware. There is updated software available in a more recent post, here. […]
Works great, unlike anything else so far. MY player is OMNI MF525.
thanks
Karl
Finally a Sound Converter that works. Thanks.
I wonder if in the package with 8 MB mentioned by Phil we
can find a TELBOOK.EXE that enables the user to sort the
database TELBOOK.BIN in alphabetical order.
need telbook? its on my driver cd that came with my player If you install the drivers you also get the telbook program and soundconverter 2.0 .act .rcr rec to wav / wave
[link deleted — see comment #5 instead]
This is a better link right from the factory itself
drivers xiron with telbook.exe sound converter 2.0 etc just instal the win98 drivers and you get everything for you’re mp3 player.

need winrar .. http://www.rarlab.com
The converter works for me BUT…
Simple request:
Need to support command line parameter
e.g. SoundCon.exe –s:“mySourcePath” [-d:“my destination path”]
[-p] for play
Less simple (and less important):
1. Convert to mp3
2. Expose as dll — to allow for use in other tools
3. Expose as add-on to other players and convertes (e.g. CDex)
Thanks a lot

Hi,
I appreciate the help given, but tools indicated through links above didn´t work for
my Starex mp3 player.
If you are still having problems, I´d better suggest to anyone looking for
Sound Convert to try the download link indicated in the first message.
About the TELBOOK, I would ask Phil, if he is reading this board, to post the
remaining software of his package. (Obs.: My TELBOOK.EXE is working fine, but it
does not let the user to sort in alphabetical order.)
Thanks,
Marcos.
Yes it works!!! FINALLY found what I was looking for! Thank you so much!!!
YES!!!! IT WORKS FINE.
It reliefed me from lots of headaches. Thanks Phill, whomever you are and wherever you are.
It lingers a little, but just relax, get a cup of coffee and let your PC do her job.
Now it is time for some quality time at the pub.
Enjoy.
I have a Centon mp3 recorder, and this program worked for my act files. I want to point out that I downloaded a lot of similar programs, but this is the only one which worked.
It’s also small and quick to download, so thanks for helping us all!
Novatech (UK) 1Gb MP3 player purchased Nov 05. Works! Thank you!
[…] I search again the internet for the converter. And I finally found the right converter that can recognize the file. This time the software can be downloaded through this blog. […]
I download the software and it successfully converted the act file. Thank you for your assistance…

James
Excellent! Finally I’ve found a converter tool that works!
Thank you!
hallo everyone.… i’ve tried that program, it’s true converts act2wav, but i’ve another trouble, wav output file isn’t suported by my winamp or another program(for instance sound forge.….. audiograbber says file is not a 16bit file), somebody else have had that problem???? .…
I need to convert act (AMV) to mp3 or wave. Can Somebody help me?
Thanks.
MSN: moioliveira@hotmail.com
It worked, it converts the act into a sound file, but cannot be sure of the new format. Windows media player’s icon was asigned, but it isn’t capable of playing the file. The sound converter does, at least.
Because of the bigger file size, I believe some kind of .wav file is made. Can it be further converted into an mp3 file?
If you can answer, please send a copy to fcopaja@grupogtd.com
Felipe
Works, yes it works — thanks, you saved my life :)))))

Maybe it’s too late for me to find your soft, but i really appreciate it. Thankyou very much again.
Use cheap no name MP3 Player / Voice Recorder that records audio in .ACT format. Your Sound Converter works very well on my XP Media Center PC. Other apps failed, including the older version of the same one which produced an msdxm.ocx error. I can now record .ACT audio, convert them to .WAV with your tool and listen to them on my PC. Thank You very much for providing this very useful conversion app. Cheers! Scott
It appears to convert from my YUMI PRO MP4 player (10.843kb act to 172,803kb wav) but no sound?

I work on PC with MS Win XP and tried to convert files from a “Soundwave” MP3 USB key that records long tracks in ACT format.
The SoundConverter 2.0 does just the same as for a number of other people: it stupidly keeps asking to copy the file to %s wherever you put it (desktop, area of program launching, disk root, etc).
On the contrary, the SoundCon program does it fast and easy to a .WAV file located at the same place as the original one.
Thanks a lot for providing the executable, it took ages (relatively:) to find out that tool! This is a great place for this resource! Moreover , it’s a virus-free one and it is very tiny!
I’ll keep this place in my favorite links!
Keep going and take care.
it worked! thanks very much!!!!!!! yey!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot! This works, and totally saves my ass from transcribing interviews directly from an MP3 player with no rewind function! For those of you using CD-R King players to record things, this is the converter that works. Thanks again!
Thanks man.. I tried many programs before and finally it works! THANKS AGAIN!
I too have the same problem, like so many others. .ACT extension files, recorded by my mp3 player, aren’t played in my computer. If you are having any successful converter, please send me a copy or the link.
This is my email add: ackasun.ks@gmail.com
i look around for the act converter all day long. and finally i’ve got the right one. thanks for sharing.
Hi! thanks a lot for this program, its work perfectly.
I have a INOVIX Ipocket and its the only program that fix the ACT convertion.
THANKS A LOT (free beer if you came in france too)
Salut!
Thanks for this Software, it works fine. I could convert .ACT file I had done with a mpman mp3 player…
When using the soft, wait until the convertion is done. The screen info is not really right. You could think that it is finished converting as the soft is still working…
Many thanks…
Thanks,
You saved me. My mother in law almost killed me. I have been trying to convert a discourse from her rabbi for a few days now. I could not find any converter that works. If you happpen to be in Jerusalem,

Finally my saved data is in use now… I have been searching all over the net for the converter. Thanks a lot. Kudos for a good job and for being a blessing for those who found this product a very reliable one.
Thank’s a million.
It works for me — Invion mp4 — and I’ve tried many.
Finally.…. this one works!
I have been looking for .ACT to .WAV converter for the past few days. And this is the only converter tool that works for the .ACT file of my digital voice recorder. Thanks a lot for sharing this tool.
Hi, thanks for the post. Device used: Mikomi digital voice recorder Model ET858. Works a treat.
Paul
The coverter worked fine. I am using a locally produced mp3 player CDR-King
Finalyy a converter that works! Thanks a lot.
merci beaucoup, c’est exactement ce qu’il me fallait.
Thank’s a lot lot lot, it’s exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you sooo much for posting this, I have search high and low and this is the only workable one, thanks a million.
NB: if you are using this wait for the status bar to disappear then look into the folder/directory where you load the file from to see the conversion equivalent of it.
i love you so much. Ive tried all kinds of converter in the market and this is the only one that works. you saved my research.…thanks a lot
Thanks a lot : I could concert a MPman CT18 file but I can’t email the stuff : any suggestion?
Great! works fine! Wish I had found it earlier… Many thanx
Great! works fine!
thanks U very very very much.…
Hallo Josh,
I’d like use your program “Sound Convert Tool 2.0″ with Windows XP.
The program is in h:\SoundConvertTool. The act-file is in the same or in a another directory.
I “open” a act-file, choose a “Outpit Option” and press “Convert”.
The program shows me a error-window: “Can’t find above file, Please copy it to %s.“
What can I do?
Thank you, Irma
Thank you so much, Josh, it worked very well and I succeeded in converting my ACT files from a MPman MP-CS157 (1GB) with Windows XP SP3. I did’nt encounter any difficulty to install the programm, I found it really easy to use and immediatly red the .WAW file with VLC 1.0.5.Many thanks again. Magikelly (Nice — France)
At Last!!! I can’t thank you enough guys.…wheeeeewww almost a half-day i’ve spent finding the right tool..thanks so much!! Godbless! :)
