Vinyl 45 arrives

It’s here.

DFI LanParty UT NForce4 SLI-DR VENUS, AMD 64bit 3200+ (939) @ 2.4GHz, 2GB (2 x 1GB DIMMS) OCZ Platinum DDR PC4000, 256MB GeForce 7600GS PCIe, 250GB Sata2 Seagate, Pioneer DVD Combi drive, OCZ Powerstream 520 Watts… and XP Pro still sucks. Necessary evils, I suppose. 2221 3DMark ’06, don’t remember ’05 score.

All this firepower and I’m sitting here playing seven-year-old RTS games anyway. Sigh :P Next stop, another hard drive (just so I don’t have system/data on same disk… I’d complain about the pagefile — wow it’s weird calling a swap partition that — but somehow with 2GBs of tasty memory — mmm brains — that shouldn’t be too much of a concern just yet ;-)).

Also, I’m rather sold on the dual core myth so if anyone has an X2 939 they’re trying to get rid of… PWTB. Not that I need it right now so it’ll wait a while. I’m planning on saving again and getting some decent video hardware to go with my new Sony PVM-411CE :-)

I’ve got some case mods planned but am thinking they’re going to have to wait until summer break for reasons of time and money. And it’s now 1.30 in the morning and I’ve got to be up in five and a half hours. Doh… computers suck.

I first read “Seagate” as “Stargate” and was all excited.

This might be abit random considering I havnt read or replied to this website in .…… more than 6 – 7 months … probably havnt spoken to you in that time frame either. Which promts the obviouse question how are you? and hope things are well…

As for my comment: WTF YOU GOT A VENUS! where from and how much did that cost?!?!!

Yeah def go dual core if possible. fluidtek/msy have them for like $200 now… (or atleast they did). having said that you probably know that already.…

Personally im hoping to acquire a basic Core 2 Duo machine some time b4 christmas. Got bugger all chance of it actually happening, but it would be VERY nice to finaly replace my 5 year old P4. For now im happy with my new benq 91V+.….

Hey Johnny :) Things are moderately good, yah. You should blog more tho :P

It cost me… lots less than it should have :) Above system was $950 total I think. Only full price component was the 7600GS ($150) coz I couldn’t be bothered finding a second hand graphics card cheaper — I would have spent like $250 on a graphics card if I did, and was already getting broke enough over this thing. It’s now up to ~$1200 with a bit of software thrown in and whatever else, and then I’m hopefully going to spend another grand or so on video editing crap in a month or three, so it’s sufficiently financially draining.

Nah dual core isn’t that cheap for 939. It’s $275 for slowest (4200+, if that’s slow :P) A64 939 from MSY. You’re probably thinking of AM2 stuff… you can get slower AM2 chips for cheaper than $200 but it’s definitely not worth the hassle of me changing motherboards for. Plus I’m getting a mediocre but strangely worthwhile 400MHz overclock out of the 3200 I’ve got at the minute, and that’s before I start pumping up the voltage much. The system is capable of much more but I don’t really know enough about modern tech to acheive greater performance gains… especially RAM timings, that’s just throwing me out completely.

It’s pulling in 3dMark06 scores of 2235 which is pretty solid considering the el crapo graphics card. I’m especially enjoying having 2GB of memory to play with :)

Haha my blog? yeah i deleted all my old posts as they were.… well… pointless? largly concerning the half finished ones from NZ which got some very uncomplimentary remarks from random people with too much time on there hands. (mean while im missing a maths lecture writing this ahem, you can see im very dedicated)

Ahhm yes RAM timings. Iv got NFI :D. All i know is that to get seriouse power ~2gb of ddr800 is like… more than i would get by selling my entire bedroom lol.

Iv been keeping relativly upto speed on latest tech. Iv been trying to update my pc since last christmas (hence my lack of chance of getting one b4 next christams seeming as its been 9 months :P). Part of that was dissatisfaction of the prices lol. So i was pretty happy when AMD had 939 3800 x2 for i think… 190. The idea was to just get the MB and the CPU.….. But then they went and upped the price again. Since Core 2 apears to be killing AMD atm and theres nothing i can really do for my current box anymore (the whole thing is seriously dying — my 2 cd drives open/close randomly without instruction, and without a restart my pc screen flashes uncontrolably) i may as well get a whole new shabang. Fluidtek appears to be offering better prices than MSY atm, but if I can find alittle asian guy who has a membership @ MSY to buy the stuff for me then i could prob get an extra ~10% off.. or so a friend tells me anyway :D.

I benchmarked my pc hehhehe. With 3dmark05.….…. something like 425 hahahahhahah.

I would LOVE more power. I tend to use with lots of programs to mod games with, play with graphics + web etc, main ones being adobe CS2 + macromedia suite, maya, some bathymetric vector mapping software for UNI (long story). But the point is running more than 2 of any combo from that lot makes my pc hemourage. Which is very sad.
