P2 Celeron vs. P3 heat output?

Anyone know what the difference (if any) is for Pentium 2 Celerons vs. Pentium 3 FC-PGA 370 processors? I’ve got a Gateway system here with a P2-400 in it which I just gutted and am hoping to put a P3-866 into it (albeit probably at a lower than hoped clock speed — it’ll probably work out to 650MHz max due to the FSB being locked at 100MHz — purely speculation, but that’s the way brand name machines like this go), ideally with the same heatsink as was used on the Celeron. The case has one fan which is intelligent (heat-switched) which does the system and the power supply, and I’ve discovered (after literally RIPPING the processor out of its socket, because the heatsink was glued to the processor and I couldn’t get to the lever with the heatsink there) that there’s no auxillary fan power socket on the motherboard — so I’ll have fun using the stock intel cooler with the Pentium 3!

Yeah, so, if anyone knows rough heat output specs for those two it’d be great if you could post! I’m getting some more thermal goop tonight, but I still need to figure out how to work the fans… I think I’m just going to end up doing a dodgy direct-to-12V molex job with a paperclip in the worst case!

Maybe this makes me a “half-empty” type person…

… but I think that the fact that it has taken me longer to transfer a few ISOs from my laptop (10Mbit NIC) to another desktop than it did to download them from Telstra initially is kind of sad. Unfortunately, I had no other option, as I need to get the ISOs for my new server, and the laptop is the only computer with the BigPond client installed on it…

Ah well, under an hour for 1.2GB of files isn’t too bad ;) *chuckles at ADSL people who are awed by non-Telstra DSLAMs that do 2Mbit/s*

Internet is live

Well, the Telstra guy came and handed me a modem, and I plugged it straight into this here laptop. But that’s okay, because I made him crimp some TV coax for us whilst he was here, too! *grins stupidly*

The office is starting to get there, here are a few pics for the sake of burning bandwidth…

No alt text, sorry; suffice to say there are four pictures from different angles portraying a mess!

Moving

I’m moving into the new house in about 9 and a half hours time. Will hopefully get time to post in the near future, with post-moving-in photos, but we’ll see how things go. The Telstra guy is coming to plug something into the wall for us tomorrow, too, so hopefully the IT side of things will be live pretty quick.
