Wireless broadband on the cheap

Whirlpool have just announced (last night) the release of new broadband plans from Veritel, with insane discounts and benefits for Whirlpool visitors.

According to the Whirlpool website, normal pricing is as follows:

Speed Usage limit (MB) $/Mth
256/64 500 $39.95
256/64 1,500 $49.95
256/64 5,000 $59.95
512/128 2,000 $64.95
512/128 5,000 $79.95
512/128 12,000 $89.95
1024/256 5,000 $99.95
1024/256 12,000 $119.95
1024/256 20,000 $129.95

However, until the end of September (that’s 18 days away, folks), Whirlpool visitors can get the following plans from Veritel, without even being bound to a contract:

Speed Usage limit (MB) $/Mth
256/64 3,000 $34.95
512/128 10,000 $44.95
1024/256 20,000 $64.95

These prices can be kept by anyone who signs up to them as a Whirlpool reader for as long as they want, according to Veritel’s press release, available on the Whirlpool article webpage. Ivan Hurwitz, a representative of Veritel, posted a link to a page on the Veritel website detailing how the offer works. This page is not linked to from the rest of the Veritel website, however if you’re interested, it’s available here.

Disclosure: I’m not associated with Veritel in any way, shape or form. I just thought the offer was cool, hence the promotion. This lack of association will may cease in the next 18 days, if I decide to go with this offer, but that’s still speculation. The webpages linked to from this blog entry are available and publicised in an open forum, readable by anyone with internet access. These links are published in good faith, without any malicious intent. If Veritel desire the removal of these links, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

How come all the cool web design people have the name “Matt”? A worthwhile read, with some very valid points.

phpSysInfo 2.4-cvs

phpSysInfo is one of those apps that I don’t mind being on the bleeding edge with, because it’s non-essential, and just so damn cool at times. This new development build doesn’t look as though it has many cool new features (yet — I don’t know how long ago it forked), but hey, it’s always nice to be one of the only people out there running the latest… according to Google, as of this evening, there were only about five people it had indexed as running the phpSysInfo-2.4-cvs build. I feel special.

You can view my specialness here, if you’re interested in seeing this app or what my computer is doing at any given time. That’s assuming it’s turned on/net connected, of course… dependent on myself and iiNet’s ADSL service, respectively.

Ads That Annoy Also Succeed

According to this Wired News article, there are sufficient numbers of stupid people out there to make internet advertising a feasible reality, to the point where expenditure on Online advertising media is tipped to exceed that of Print media in the next year, according to Jupiter Research — in this report, amongst others.

Sigh. I’m unaware of any websites which I frequent that use popups, even by permission — it just doesn’t seem to happen anymore! That said, perhaps I’m just visiting a cleaner, more “annoyance-aware” corner of the web than everyone else is…
